Server-side errors not being handled properly in portlets

            Description

            According to the forum posting, certain serious exceptions are being propagated to the client and causing odd behaviour. It seems that we're either not capturing the error appropriately in the framework (to prevent it from propagating to the client) or the bridge is not handling these responses in a portlet-friendly manner. According to the forum posting, the request that results in the error:

            http://localhost:8084/portalappweb/block/send-receive-updates500

            is malformed or perhaps not handling the returned value intelligently.
