      Description

There have been several community requests and at least one commercial support
customer request for a rich text input component to be added to the ICEfaces
      Component Suite.

It may be possible to port or convert and existing rich-text DHTML control.
      Suggestions from the community are:

      - FCKEditor
      - Tinymce
      - Xinha

          Philip,

Yes I looked into fck-faces a while back and it was not compatible with portals, or there was some other problem. It was too hard to use. So that's why I created my own and sent it to ICEsoft.

Do y'all have a rich text area component on the roadmap for 1.7? I'll be working closely with Deryk and Jack soon in order to make sure the portlet compatibility is working well within Liferay.

          Thanks,

          Neil

          FDCKEditor prototype JSF component

Comment and files from contributor Neil Griffin:

          "Regarding FCKEditor:

I have not worked with the authors of FCKeditor, but creating a JSF
component was so easy, that I almost couldn't believe how easy it was.
Attached is my source code (very few lines of code).

The folks at Apache Tomahawk had something like this, but it was
dependent on the MyFaces Filter. Filters don't work in portals, so I had
          to create my own.

The attached component actually works with the D2DViewHandler without
modification, but when I put it inside an <ice:panelTabSet> it stopped
rendering when I flipped back and forth between tabs.

So yes, you could save me lots of time here... I think you all could use
the attached code as a guide and make an HTML renderer compatible with
the D2DViewHandler and have an <ice:richtextarea> component done in a
          few hours.

          Best Regards,
          Neil "

Consider for late-sprint addition to 1.6.
