      Description

      Unfortunatly since V5.X of ICEpdf Pro the rendering quality of our documents decreased. There are extremely frayed letters and sometimes it's impossible to read the document with 100% zoom. Please have a look at the attached sample file.

        The document in question uses a Type 3 font where each glyph is made up of small TIFF image. In 5.x we changed the defaults for the graphics rendering hints. The 4.x rendering quality should be achievable in 5.x by using the system property -Dorg.icepdf.core.screen.interpolation=VALUE_INTERPOLATION_BICUBIC.

        Thanks Patrick;

        The hint you gave me worked and the letters will be rendered much smoother. Although there is still a big difference between adobe reader and icepdf in rendering quality. Are there any other settings to improve the rendering quality?

        There are currently no other settings to enhance the rendering of Type 3 glyphs. I'll make a comment on PDF-637 as there might be something we can add when dealing with small images.

        Marking as resolved. Further work has been done to help improve the scaling of type 3 font glyphs.

        The following image reference modes can be used:

        -Dorg.icepdf.core.imageReference=smoothScaled
        or
        -Dorg.icepdf.core.imageReference=scaled
