            Noted in the forum: http://www.icefaces.org/JForum/posts/list/0/2865.page#13875

             the documentation of ice:tree is wrong. The description for the "value"
            attribute is: " Sets the component's model value, which must be a JSF value
            binding expression for a "com.icesoft.faces.component.custom.treeView.TreeModel"
            instance."
