See screenshot-01 to screenshot-10 for some of the glitches/errors in IE 7/8. It seems there's bound to be one glitch/error or another, except in simplest scenarios like just clicking a thumbnail or icon/button to popup an image. (These glitches/errors never occur in FF 22.)
In terms of multimedia capability, only YoxView and fancyBox fit the bill. YoxView doesn't have the option of a separate thumbnail bar. (The popup just covers/overlaps the group of thumbnails underneath.) fancyBox has the option, but the layout and functionality is not as good as in some pure image gallery plugins. So either of them may require significant customizations.
Embedded multimedia (instead of popups) were also mentioned in the meeting. There is a whole separate class of jQuery/HTML5 plugins for them, e.g. Open Standard Media (OSM) Player and jPlayer.
Or maybe we need an integration of a player plugin with a galleria-style (inline) or lightbox-style (popup) viewer plugin? (So far haven't seen a plugin that encompasses all the options.)
