adding a renderedOnUserRole attribute to the ice:column tag would be helpful
in a secure environment since developers then could easily define which
columns to show on specific roles instead of programmatically retrieving a
user's role set from the underlying security architecture.

I completely agree with this! A situation where this is highly need is when an admin wants to impersonate another user. You could have for example a table with users and a column with a button - impersonate. Of course, you want the button to appear only for the admin.
